Plot
The show begins with a narration of the Ramayana, where Rama and Sita are separated for 14 years. The narrator then compares their story to that of Ram and Priya, who are also destined to be apart for 14 years. Ram is a wealthy and successful businessman, who owns a company called Kapoor Industries. He is a kind-hearted and generous person, but he is also lonely and unhappy. He has been married twice before, but both his marriages ended in divorce. He lives with his stepmother Niharika, his half-brother Sid, his half-sister Natasha, and his niece and nephew.
Priya is a middle-class woman, who works as a lecturer in a college. She is a smart and independent person, but she is also insecure and pessimistic. She has been single all her life, as she believes that no one will love her for who she is. She lives with her father Sudhir, her mother Shipra, her sister Ayesha, and her brother Kartik.
Ram and Priya meet each other at a bookstore, where they have an argument over a book. They later cross paths again at a wedding, where they are introduced by their mutual friend Vikram. Vikram is Ram's best friend and business partner, who is married to Neha, Priya's best friend and colleague. Vikram and Neha decide to play matchmakers for Ram and Priya, as they feel that they are perfect for each other. However, Ram and Priya are reluctant to get married, as they have different personalities and lifestyles.
After some persuasion from their families and friends, Ram and Priya agree to get married for the sake of their parents' happiness. They have a simple wedding ceremony, followed by a grand reception. On their wedding night, they decide to be friends and respect each other's space. They gradually develop a friendship and start caring for each other. They also face various challenges and problems in their personal and professional lives, such as Niharika's evil schemes, Sid's illegal activities, Natasha's love affair with Kartik, Ayesha's obsession with Ram, Priya's pregnancy, Ram's custody battle with his ex-wife Priya Sharma (Sameer Kochhar), Ram's heart attack, Priya's coma, etc.
The show takes a leap of five years, where Ram and Priya are separated due to a misunderstanding. Ram believes that Priya is dead, while Priya lives in Dubai with their daughter Peehu. They meet again after five years in Mumbai, where they realize that they still love each other. They reunite and remarry, but they face more obstacles in their relationship, such as Rajat Kapur's (Sameer Kochhar) feelings for Priya, Peehu's custody case, Ram's second daughter Pihu's (Amrita Mukherjee) rebellious behavior, Sid's revenge plan, etc.
The show takes another leap of seven years, where Ram and Priya are living happily with their children Peehu, Pihu, Mayra (Aanchal Munjal), Khush (Ankit Narang), Riya (Arshima Thapar), Cady (Fenil Umrigar), Sammy (Yuvraj Thakur), Suhani (Ekta Kaul), etc. They also welcome their third daughter Riddhima (Mahima Makwana) into their family. The show ends with Ram and Priya celebrating their 70th birthday with their family and friends.
